Position : R&D Director

Position Summary:
Reporting to the VP of R&D for Analytical Sciences and Laboratory Services, the successful candidate of this new position, is responsible for significantly expanding the existing R&D team to create a large team of software engineers, quality assurance engineers, and applications chemists responsible for delivering innovative software solutions and analytical applications to serve the Pharmaceutical, Food, Chemical, and Environmental industries. The Shanghai R&D Center will work closely with R&D centers located in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Singapore to develop these solutions. The director will interact globally and cross-functionally with product planning, marketing, sales, service, and operations, in support of the new products.
General Responsibilities:
• Lead the Shanghai R&D and Applications Teams to meet objectives of
- Drive Customer satisfaction
- Maintain competitiveness, margins and customer relevance of existing portfolio
- Develop analytical applications to support sales of existing portfolio
- Maintain ability to ship existing portfolio
- Builds core competencies in software architecture
- Execute on requirements defined by markets, territories and commercial ops
- Achieve organizationally flexibility, agility
- Enable externalization/globalization
- Leverage global resource pool
- Develop quality processes
- On-time execution of NPI/product enhancements
- On-budget execution of NPI/product enhancements
- Ensure Project Cost Performance / ROI
- Reduce Quality/Warranty Costs
• Drive product developments to ensure timely implementation of product pipelines. Assures that user requirements for new products are defined based on market and customer imperatives. Develops financial models for R&D investment justification. Meet stated development milestones and deliver projected business returns.
• Innovate new customer and end market focused solutions by working collaboratively with the many functions throughout marketing, sales, service, operations, and other R&D Centers of Excellence to deliver on-time and innovative customer solutions.
• Analyze R&D performance on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis to meet objectives.
Job Requirements:
Technical Experience
• An exceptional mix of scientific expertise, customer focus and communications skills are required to meet the needs of this position
• Experience with Agile techniques, particularly Scrum
• Must be proficient in C#, C++,.NET
• Excellent communication skills
• Core capabilities in Personnel and Project Leadership for software programs
• Strong experience leading large international teams to deliver product
• Strong Architectural understanding and experience in developing large systems requiring real-time hardware interfacing
• Experience in developing a large software platform
• Experience in leading internal and external software development teams
• Experience managing large teams of software developers and quality assurance engineers
Managerial Experience
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English
• Master’s degree in science, engineering, or software engineering
• Higher degree in business, with project management qualifications preferred
• 10+ years of experience in complex software R&D
• 5+ years R&D leadership, program, or project management of complex, cross functional engineering
