Advantages of MR compared with CT:
1, excellent differentiation of soft tissue
2, images can be acquired in any orientation
3, does not use ionizing radiation
4, contrast mediums used in MR have fewer side effects
Disadvantages of MR compared with CT:
1, Scan times typically much longer
2, Spatial resolution much less
3, Sensitive to environmentals (magnetic field influences)
4, Strong magnetic field precludes some patients from being examined with MR: pacemakers, stents, prosthesis, etc.
5, Costs more
6,Is very confining, intimidating to patients suffering claustrophobia
7Not suitable for bone studies |
